Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree…..
It’s not about the size, the type, the location or even the twinkling lights. It’s about the way it brings a community together and connects us to common ground. The tree itself was donated by a Nevada family – Josh and Sarah Wirtz. It was grown in local soil.
Local organizations came together to get the tree to it’s place in the Lincoln-Jefferson Highways Heritage Park. Central Iowa Towing hauled it, the Nevada Fire Department and City of Nevada helped set it up and get it decorated. Verbio, Burke, and Marc Olson Real Estate, MORE Team at RE/MAX Concepts assisted with the light purchase.
Main Street Nevada organized the Tree Lighting Event, where Flummerfelts supplied visitors with warm drinks and First United Methodist Church’s Revive team sang carols for all to hear. Many local businesses put gifts of coupons and merchandise in the Shop Nevada swag bags that were given out.
More than 100 people came to watch the tree light up, but they weren’t just there for that. The event gave them a reason to gather with their community. It gave them a reason to put their screens down, grab their family and friends and be together. It gave them a reason to get outside in the fresh air and to start celebrating a season of joy and giving.
We hope the tree brings you joy and comfort and reminds you to slow down and share time with others. Let the tree be a reminder that we are a community that works together.
